Membership Vote Being Connducted Right Now

Have you ever asked yourself why there isn’t a Superior branch at Indian Lake? Sidney? Findlay? The reason is because Superior locations are currently restricted to the counties we serve in our federally-regulated field of membership. This means that even though we may (and do) have many members who reside outside of Allen, Auglaize, Hardin, Mercer, Putnam, and Van Wert counties, we are unable to expand into their home market. One way to ease this restriction is by converting from a federal to a state charter.

While charter conversion may sound like a big deal, it is actually quite common. In fact, Superior is the largest credit union in Ohio that is still federally chartered. To continue to grow and serve our members, it is imperative that the credit union be able to expand both inside and outside of its current field of membership. And despite dropping the “Federal” from our name, there will be absolutely no change to your current share insurance. All deposits will remain federally insured to $250,000.

Ballots were mailed to all members the week of August 17, and can be returned by mail or dropped off at your local branch office. Please take the time to respond and return your ballot in the envelope provided. The audit firm GBQ and Associates will handle the collection and counting of votes.

A special membership meeting to discuss the change from a federal charter to a state charter will be held September 3 at 5:00 p.m. The meeting will be held at Superior’s main office at 4230 Elida Rd., Lima, Ohio.

The Board and management of Superior encourage you to vote on the proposed charter change.

WBL logoLIMA, OH— Superior Credit Union and the Western Buckeye League athletic conference have officially signed a marketing agreement making Superior the Official Financial Institution of the WBL. While common in college and professional sports, this deal is believed to be the first of its kind in Ohio high school athletics.

Under the agreement, Superior will provide the league and each member school with sponsorship and marketing considerations. Beginning this fall, fans will be able to listen to the all new “WBL Game of the Week” every week during football and basketball season on 93.9 KISS-FM, presented by Superior. Superior will also sponsor one WBL conference tournament each year. Finally, the WBL All Sports Trophy will officially be named the Superior Credit Union Commissioner’s Trophy.

As part of the deal, Superior will also underwrite the Western Buckeye League Sportsmanship Committee. This committee is composed of a minimum of 4 students from each of the WBL member schools as appointed by the athletic director and high school principal of each member school. The committee was created to promote sportsmanship and leadership among the league’s student-athletes.

In return, Superior will receive promotional consideration from the league and its member schools, including on the League’s website,, and the WBL Sports mobile app.

“Superior has always been supportive of our local schools. In pursing this partnership, we sought to package our support into a single agreement that would benefit both organizations,“ said Kurt Neeper, Vice President of Superior Credit Union.

“Superior’s office locations align almost perfectly with the WBL member schools. And like the Western Buckeye League, we have a long tradition of excellence in enriching the communities we serve,” said Neeper. “So when looking for a marketing partner, it only made sense to start with the WBL.”

“The athletic directors and member schools are in agreement that this is a good partnership for all involved,” said Robert Askins, WBL Commissioner. “This is a relatively new type of agreement for us, and knowing that this partnership will reflect on all member schools, we wanted to make sure that we were working with a quality organization. We found that in Superior.”

Apple's latest released devices give users the ability to store debit and credit card information on their phone and use their phone instead of the actual plastic to pay at merchants with terminals with Near-Field Communication (NFC) capability. Right now, 220,000 merchants - or roughly 20% of card terminals - have NFC. Superior Credit Union is not a participant in the initial roll out of Apple Pay, however, we anticipate do offering the service to members when the service becomes broadly available to all financial institutions. We will post additional updates on our website and in our eNewsletter as they become available. Read more from Apple's Website
